In collaboration with the ASD Network and other NDE Technical Assistance Teams, we are excited to offer Supporting Academic Learning for Students with Profound Disabilities: A Four-Part Workshop Series.

This virtual series is designed for educators who support students participating in alternate assessment or students working significantly below grade-level academic standards. While special educators and SLPs will find the content especially relevant, teams are encouraged to participate, including general education teachers, instructional coaches, administrators, and others who support inclusive instruction.

Across four sessions, we’ll move from understanding the Nebraska Extended Indicators and instructional supports to putting them into practice within specific academic areas. The series includes:

• September 17, 12:00–3:00 PM CT: Introduction, alternate assessment eligibility, Extended Indicators, Career Readiness Standards, and instructional supports
• October 6, 1:00–3:00 PM CT: English Language Arts
• November 3, 1:00–3:00 PM CT: Math
• November 17, 1:00–3:00 PM CT: Science
• December 10 - live at ESU 6 with watch sites at other ESUs. More info will follow with times and location.

Sessions 2–4 will take a deeper dive into using the Extended Indicators and instructional supports to create meaningful academic instruction in both general education and resource settings. Assistive Technology and Transition considerations will also be embedded throughout the series.
